.io GDPR approach and compliance

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a regulation enforceable from May 25, 2018, intended to strengthen and unify data protection for all individuals within the European Union.

Here, at .io Analytics, while working with multiple European clients, we are deeply concerned with using best data practices and immediately started preparation on meeting the GDPR requirements.

Our preparation towards GDPR compliance consists of two things: Codes of conduct и compliance certifications.

Codes of conduct

GDPR has published a list of norms, that each company should comply with when working with data. We always carefully take all of these norms and rules into consideration, including:

  • Fair and transparent processing. We use open data sources only (such as Facebook API or Website javascript tracking) and show information unmodified, without any sort of editing on our end whatsoever.
  • The legitimate interests pursued by controllers in specific contexts.
  • The collection of personal data. We don’t collect users personal data in any way. An exception to this is data on user's geographical location; however, this data is used in general reports only and is not associated with a specific user.
  • The pseudonymization of personal data. We use unique users identifiers (with the help of cookies), that help us differentiate new users from those who have visited the website earlier. This data is used for statistical purposes only. As mentioned earlier, none of the personal data is being collected and stored in our system. The user has full control over cookies (having the choice of deleting/ disagreeing to cookies usage at any point).
  • The information provided to the public and to data subjects. We do not share any data publicly; any data we collect belongs to our clients only. The client has full control over accesses - granting, controlling the level and canceling accesses whenever needed.
  • General data protection obligations of data controllers, including privacy by design and measures to ensure the security of processing. We use the best and most advanced practices for protecting and securing data, among which:
    • Mandatory usage of SSL protocol in any communication
    • Two-factor identification (login/password credentials and unique access hash key) for protection against accidental loss of any of the components
    • Encryption and data isolation. Each customer’s data is stored in its own isolated cluster.

Compliance certifications

Currently GDPR does not hold official certifications, however, there are other highly recognizable certificates that help to check compliance towards best industry standards when working with data.

We are happy to keep you informed on the process of obtaining these certifications.

Most important

GDPR - is a set of data protection regulations throughout the EU, which include both, technical and nontechnical requirements. These laws will come into effect on May 25, 2018. Right now, there is a list of recommendations from GDPR which we are constantly adhering to. Additionally, we are in the middle of undergoing certifications in several other companies, to confirm and prove our readiness to being GDPR compliant when the time comes.
